Kenwood DMX8021DAB Head Unit and AHD Reverse Camera Installation in Honda Civic – Modern Multimedia Upgrade

Honda Civic – a modern classic with tuning potential

The Honda Civic has long been a favorite among drivers who value reliability, sporty design, and dynamic styling. It’s a car that continues to perform well both in everyday use and after light tuning – including electronics and car audio upgrades. That’s why more and more owners are choosing to modernize their factory multimedia systems, which in older models are often limited in functionality.

This time, we installed a modern 2DIN Kenwood DMX8021DAB head unit in a Honda Civic, along with an AHD (Analog High Definition) reverse camera. Thanks to this setup, the owner now enjoys not only improved audio quality and a modern interface, but also full support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, DAB+, and a precise HD rear-view image.

Why we chose the Kenwood DMX8021DAB and an AHD reverse camera

The Kenwood DMX8021DAB is one of the most popular 2DIN units among users looking for high-quality visuals and audio, as well as seamless integration with modern smartphones. This model features:

✅ 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen
✅ Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support (wired and wireless)
✅ DAB+ tuner for crystal-clear digital radio
✅ Integration with AHD reverse cameras
✅ Advanced sound customization and EQ settings

For this project, we also selected an AHD reverse camera, which offers much higher resolution compared to standard CVBS models. The image when reversing is sharp, stable, and lag-free – perfect for urban driving and tight parking situations.

Installing the Kenwood DMX8021DAB in a Honda Civic – wiring and integration

The installation began with removing the factory audio system. The Civic’s dashboard allows for a standard 2DIN unit, but to ensure a clean, factory-like finish, we used a dedicated trim kit, perfectly matched to the central console of this model.

To connect the Kenwood radio to the vehicle’s electrical system, we used ISO harness adapters and a steering wheel control interface. This allows full use of the original steering wheel buttons for volume, track changes, and call handling – just like in OEM infotainment systems.

The AHD reverse camera was discreetly installed at the rear of the vehicle, with cables routed cleanly through the interior. The image automatically appears on the Kenwood screen when reverse gear is engaged – smooth, high-resolution, and with zero lag.

Summary – modern multimedia in a classic Honda

Thanks to this upgrade, the Honda Civic received a serious multimedia makeover. The Kenwood DMX8021DAB, paired with the AHD camera, significantly improved driving comfort, safety during parking, and everyday usability. Everything was installed with attention to detail and seamless integration with the car’s electronics, while keeping all factory functions intact.
