Car Soundproofing – How to Improve Driving Comfort in a Dacia Duster?

Why Should You Soundproof Your Car?

Car soundproofing is one of the best ways to enhance driving comfort, especially in models like the Dacia Duster, where factory-installed acoustic insulation is minimal. Engine noise, tire hum, and sounds coming from the wheel arches or trunk can significantly impact the driving experience.

With professional soundproofing, we achieved:
Reduced external noise – less sound from tires, wind, and the road.
Improved Car audio quality – reduced vibrations and resonance for better sound clarity.
Increased comfort on long trips – a quieter interior makes driving less tiring.

To achieve the best results, we almost completely soundproofed the Dacia Duster, using STP Black Silver mats, STP K3S and K6S acoustic foams, and multi-layer STP Bromo materials. Here’s how the process went.

Door Soundproofing – Eliminating Noise and Improving Acoustics

The doors are a crucial part of any soundproofing project because they allow a significant amount of external noise to enter the cabin. Additionally, they play a key role in car audio performance—vibrating metal and resonating plastics can reduce sound quality.

What Materials Did We Use?

🔹 STP Black Silver – high-quality butyl sound-deadening mat to eliminate vibrations and resonance.
🔹 STP K3S and K6S – acoustic foams that absorb airborne noise and improve insulation.

Door Soundproofing Process

1️⃣ Removing the door panels – we carefully removed the interior panels to access the metal surfaces.
2️⃣ Applying STP Black Silver mats – the first vibration-damping layer was installed.
3️⃣ Installing STP K3S/K6S foam – the second layer provided additional noise absorption.
4️⃣ Reassembling the door panels – ensuring a secure fit to prevent rattles.

The result? Less external noise and a much clearer, more dynamic car audio experience.

Wheel Arch Soundproofing – Blocking Road Noise

The wheel arches are one of the main areas through which road noise enters the cabin. In the Dacia Duster, the sound of tires rolling and stones hitting the wheel wells is particularly noticeable, so we made sure to insulate them effectively.

What Materials Did We Use?

🔹 STP Black Silver – applied to the inner wheel arch panels to dampen vibrations.
🔹 STP K3S/K6S foams – additional sound-absorbing layers to reduce tire noise.

Wheel Arch Soundproofing Process

1️⃣ Removing the plastic wheel arch liners – to expose the metal surfaces.
2️⃣ Applying STP Black Silver – the first layer to reduce vibrations.
3️⃣ Adding STP K3S/K6S foam – the second layer to absorb tire noise.
4️⃣ Reinstalling the wheel arch liners – securing all components properly.

After these steps, tire noise was significantly reduced, making the cabin much quieter.

Trunk and Floor Soundproofing – Multi-Layer Insulation

The trunk and floor are major sources of noise inside the car. In the Dacia Duster, sound from the rear axle and vibrations from the road surface are particularly noticeable.

What Materials Did We Use?

🔹 STP Black Silver – the first layer to eliminate vibrations.
🔹 STP Bromo – a multi-layer material for additional structural and airborne noise insulation.

Trunk and Floor Soundproofing Process

1️⃣ Removing the trunk and floor carpeting – gaining full access to the metal surfaces.
2️⃣ Applying STP Black Silver – the first layer to dampen vibrations and resonance.
3️⃣ Installing STP Bromo – a multi-layer material providing maximum soundproofing.
4️⃣ Reinstalling the carpeting – ensuring everything fits securely.

Thanks to the multi-layer soundproofing, we effectively reduced road noise and structural vibrations inside the vehicle.

Soundproofing Effects – Is It Worth It?

After almost fully soundproofing the Dacia Duster, the driving experience was noticeably improved. Here are the key benefits:
Quieter cabin – less noise from outside, especially at highway speeds.
Better car audio performance – no more vibrations, deeper bass, and clearer sound.
Less fatigue on long trips – lower noise levels help drivers stay more focused.

By using STP Black Silver mats, STP K3S and K6S foams, and multi-layer STP Bromo materials, we achieved comprehensive insulation that significantly improved the car’s acoustic properties.
