Toyota PHEV – Soundproofing and Steg Leo 650C Speaker Installation with 3D Printed Adapters

This time, the focus was on improving interior soundproofing and upgrading the factory car audio system. We soundproofed the front doors and front wheel arches, and replaced the original speakers with the Steg Leo 650C component system. To keep everything fully reversible and OEM-friendly, we designed and 3D printed custom mounting adapters and spacers – enabling a 100% Plug&Play installation.
Automotive soundproofing – a quieter cabin and better sound
Front doors and wheel arches are among the noisiest areas in most cars. For this Toyota PHEV, we used a combination of butyl mats and sound-absorbing foams to reduce road and engine noise.
This automotive soundproofing not only made the cabin more comfortable, but also improved the performance of the car audio system. With vibrations and unwanted resonance reduced, the speakers can now deliver clearer, more accurate sound.
Steg Leo 650C – surprisingly great results from a mid-range system
We installed the Steg Leo 650C, a two-way 165 mm component speaker system from Steg’s mid-tier lineup. Despite its moderate price point, the performance was truly impressive. The sound became more detailed, spatial, and full-bodied – a significant upgrade over the factory setup.
This project proves that even a simple, well-thought-out car audio upgrade using mid-range components can deliver excellent results when installed correctly.

3D printed adapters – perfect fit, no modifications
To ensure a completely reversible and non-destructive installation, we designed and 3D printed custom tweeter adapters and woofer spacers tailored for this Toyota PHEV.

This allowed us to maintain the Plug&Play standard and avoid any alterations to the original panels.
