Mercedes GLB – soundproofing of doors, wheel arches and bonnet with CTK Premium
The Mercedes GLB is a comfortable SUV, but like most modern cars the factory soundproofing of the wheel arches, doors and bonnet is quite limited. Tyre roar, suspension noise and engine sound at higher speeds can easily reduce driving comfort. In this project we carried out a complete car soundproofing package using CTK Premium materials – including the front and rear doors, front and rear wheel arches and the bonnet.

Scope of work in the Mercedes GLB
On this Mercedes GLB we performed a complete soundproofing package focused on the main sources of noise. The work included:
- front and rear doors – damping of the outer and inner metal panels,
- front and rear wheel arches – reinforcement of the body panels and damping of the plastic liners,
- bonnet – reducing engine noise and metal resonance.
All surfaces were carefully cleaned and degreased before being covered with CTK Premium butyl-aluminium mats. In selected places we added an extra layer of acoustic foam to further reduce reflections and rattles.
Door soundproofing with CTK Premium
The doors in the Mercedes GLB play a key role both in overall cabin comfort and in the performance of the audio system. After removing the trim panels and exposing the door structure, we applied CTK Premium mats to the outer metal skin to eliminate vibrations and stiffen the panel.
Next, we treated the inner door panel, sealing large openings and creating a much more favourable acoustic environment for the speakers. On the back of the trim panels we used CTK acoustic foam, which prevents plastic parts from rattling and reduces unwanted reflections. This significantly improves the performance of both the factory audio system and any future car audio upgrades.
Wheel arch soundproofing – reducing tyre and road noise
SUVs are particularly sensitive to tyre and road noise coming through the wheel arches. In this GLB we thoroughly damped the front and rear wheel arches using CTK Premium mats applied directly to the body and to the plastic liners.
The mats were cut into smaller, precisely shaped pieces to follow the curved surfaces and avoid gaps. In the most exposed areas we added extra layers, and the liners were additionally covered with closed-cell foam that does not absorb water. This combination significantly reduces the noise level in the cabin, especially on rough asphalt and at motorway speeds.
Bonnet soundproofing
The bonnet is another area that strongly affects perceived engine noise. We applied CTK Premium mats to the inner side of the bonnet to reduce vibration and resonance. This makes the engine sound more muted and less intrusive inside the cabin, especially during cold starts and dynamic acceleration.
Results and contact
After the soundproofing work the Mercedes GLB feels noticeably quieter. Tyre and suspension noise is reduced, conversations inside the car are easier and the audio system operates in much better acoustic conditions. It is a good example of how professional car soundproofing can transform the driving experience without any mechanical modifications.
